Golf at Providence Country Club
The 7,021 yard par 72 championship golf course at Providence Country Club provides a unique challenge to the accomplished golfer while accommodating novice skill with five-tiered tee boxes. Featuring five par 5, five par 3 and eight par 4 holes, the original Dan Maples layout was redesigned by Mike Gleason before architect Kris Spence renovated the course in 2018. This $3.2 million project focused on bunkers, irrigation, transitioning the greens to Champion Bermuda, and designing new, dramatic looks from the fairways.
Practice makes perfect and Providence has it all; multiple first-class putting greens, two short-game practice areas and a full swing driving range. Our knowledgeable PGA professionals provide expert personal instruction, clinics and camps to make your golf experience immensely rewarding. Members also enjoy a number of special events throughout the year, including active women's, men's and junior's programs. Our flourishing Junior Golf program consists of camps and clinics throughout the season, as well as an active summer program that nurtures a passion for the sport.

Hole #1 | Par 4
M/W Handicap: 18/12
Under 400 yards long from the back tee, the course’s shortest par 4 offers a generous landing area. Avoid the fairway bunkers off the tee for a look at birdie, and do your best to make par or better as this is the easiest hole on the course.
Hole #2 | Par 3
M/W Handicap: 12/14
The first of five par 3s, the second hole features the course’s first and largest Butte bunker. Avoid it if you want to walk away with par. The putting surface is fairly wide, but very puttable. Hitting the green leads to a good chance at birdie.
Hole #3 | Par 5
M/W Handicap: 2/2
No 3 is the longest hole on the course and the most difficult par 5. Try a fairway metal off the tee to avoid the creek running down center and play for positioning. The second shot leaves you with a long layup. Par is a great score; birdie feels like stealing one.
Hole #4 | Par 3
M/W Handicap: 10/18
One of the best par 3’s in Charlotte, a pond runs the entire left side of this Redan hole. Aim right off the tee to find a favorable slope on the green. Clear the bunker front-left or hit it toward the redan for your best chance at two.
Hole #5 | Par 4
M/W Handicap: 16/15
Long hitters reach for a driver here, while a fairway metal or hybrid is a good choice to lay back and avoid the bunker. The second shot is crucial as you approach the punchbowl green. Its distinct mounding makes for some interesting iron shots.
Hole #6 | Par 3
M/W Handicap: 14/16
The front’s shortest par 3 requires a short iron or wedge into its volcano-shaped green. Several bunkers surround the putting surface which makes club selection key. This is a great birdie opportunity if you can find the green.
Hole #7 | Par 4
M/W Handicap: 8/6
This straightaway hole has a generous fairway despite a right-side bunker. A tough bunker left of the green and a chipping/pitching area right test even the best players’ short game. It’s the fourth most difficult hole on the course and deserves all of your attention.
Hole #8 | Par 5
M/W Handicap: 6/4
This beautiful dogleg right is well guarded by bunkers. Find the fairway off the tee for a chance at eagle or birdie. To layup, avoid bunkers on both sides of the fairway. More sand awaits around the putting surface as you approach the green.
Hole #9 | Par 4
M/W Handicap: 4/10
A great finishing hole for the front side. The water and bunkers on the right make you want to favor the left side, but two large oak trees on the left will stymie you. Make an aggressive drive just left of the bunkers to leave you with a mid to short iron approach shot. A challenging chip shot awaits balls to the left and over the green.
Hole #10 | Par 5
M/W Handicap: 13/9
Eagle and birdie opportunities await, but watch out for out of bounds right off the tee and water surrounding most of the green. Aim your second/third shot toward the right side of the fairway to take advantage of a slope to the putting surface.
Hole #11 | Par 3
M/W Handicap: 17/17
Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink. This beautiful but terrifying hole requires firing a tee shot across a pond. Bunkers long and right of the green are the best areas to bail out if you can’t find the green. Par is a great score here!
Hole #12 | Par 5
M/W Handicap: 5/5
A great chance for birdie, you must avoid the creek that runs the full length of No 12 and the bunker when laying up. Bunkers guard the green left and up the entire right side while the creek by the green as well.
Hole #13 | Par 4
M/W Handicap: 9/15
One of the best changes during the recent renovation! Bunkers hug each side of the fairway and pin locations on the green dictate how aggressive you can be with your approach shot. You can easily score here, but you can just as easily end up playing defense.
Hole #14 | Par 4
M/W Handicap: 3/7
The next two holes are quite tough. While a good tee shot is a must, No 14 features one of the course’s most difficult putting surfaces. Bunkers guard the front-left and right side of the green. Stay below the hole for your best chance at holing a putt.
Hole #15 | Par 4
M/W Handicap: 1/1
Position the ball as far up the fairway as possible with your tee shot. Laying back off the tee will leave you with a mid to long iron approach to one of the best second shots in all of Charlotte. Play to the middle of the green for your best chance at par.
Hole #16 | Par 3
M/W Handicap: 15/11
The last par 3 offers a treacherous green, but finding it off the tee can lead to birdie. It’s imperative that you avoid the pot bunker short of the green, as the bail out area is left of the putting surface. A short iron will give you a good look at two.
Hole #17 | Par 4
M/W Handicap: 11/13
A creek to the left and several bunkers up the right make hitting a solid tee ball here a must. If you can avoid trouble off the tee, par or better is within reach. Missing the fairway makes the hole at minimum a shot more difficult.
Hole #18 | Par 5
M/W Handicap: 7/3
There are many birdies to be had at the home hole. Avoid the bunkers long-left or short-right off the tee and as you approach the green watch for two bunkers up the right and one greenside left. Enjoy the view with water to your left and the clubhouse on the right.
